Testosterone VS HCG → What is Your Best Treatment Option?

There are many good reasons to use hormone replacement therapy to boost your testosterone levels back into their optimal range. Maintaining optimal levels staves off disease, keeps up your sexual function, and helps you maintain your weight and muscle mass. Two treatment options exist for men who want to boost their testosterone: bio-identical testosterone and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG).

The best treatment option for you depends on your age and interest in fertility. For men who already have as many children as they want, Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy with testosterone is best. For men who want to preserve their fertility, HCG is the better option.

Testosterone & Fertility

For men under 35, or who still want to have kids, testosterone replacement is not the go-to treatment for low testosterone. While it does not happen in all men, testosterone therapy  can reduce sperm count, even though it increases libido.

Men who are under the age of 35 generally have the biological capacity to produce enough testosterone to achieve optimal levels without help. They may, however, not be producing enough luteinizing hormone (LH), the hormone that signals the testes to make testosterone. HCG is therefore an excellent option for them, as it mimics LH and stimulates testosterone production.

Sometimes, especially for men between the ages of 35 and 45 who are interested in preserving their fertility, HCG alone will not elevate testosterone levels enough. In these cases, a combination of HCG and testosterone may be used.

Get More For Less With Bio-identical Testosterone

For men who do not need to worry about their sperm count, testosterone is the preferred treatment option. There are four advantages to using bio-identical testosterone.

  1. Direct adjustment of testosterone levels. Instead of relying on the stimulation of the testicles by HCG, the testosterone deficit is addressed directly.
  2. Leverage the 5-alpha-reductase in the skin. As testosterone absorbs through the skin it encounters an enzyme that converts it to a more potent form called DHT.
  3. A better bang for your buck. Testosterone is less expensive than HCG.
  4. Applying a topical versus injections. Administering testosterone via a topical cream twice a day is pretty simple. HCG, on the other hand, requires daily injections in the thigh or shoulder.

Deciding which treatment option is best for you really depends on your interest in preserving your fertility. If you still want kids, you should consider starting with HCG. If you do not get the desired results, you may supplement that treatment with bioidentical testosterone. For men who do not want any more children, however, bioidentical testosterone replacement therapy is the best option.
